Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called on the Luo community, particularly residents of Homa Bay County, to gear up for the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for June 1, 2025.

Speaking during the burial of matriarch Mama Preskila Koyo at Kakwajuok Village in Karachuonyo Sub-county on Friday, Omollo urged locals to demonstrate exemplary hospitality as Homa Bay prepares to host the national celebrations for the first time in history.

“For the first time, Homa Bay County will be hosting Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1. I encourage all of us to make this celebration one of a kind because the entire country will be coming to Homa Bay,” Omollo said. “When the whole country visits us, there are behaviors we must showcase — good conduct and a warm welcome.”

The PS emphasized the need for local businesses to be fully prepared to seize the economic opportunities that come with hosting a national event of such magnitude.

He highlighted major infrastructure projects currently underway in preparation for the event, including the expansion of Raila Odinga Stadium to accommodate at least 10,000 people, alongside the upgrading of roads and other critical facilities.

“These developments, initiated by the national government ahead of Madaraka Day, will continue to benefit the people of Homa Bay long after the celebrations,” Omollo noted. “Our business community must be ready to tap into the economic boom expected during the festivities.”

Omollo further credited the strengthened cooperation between ODM party leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto for driving the wave of development projects in the region.

“Our people must see and enjoy the benefits brought about by the good relations between our leaders. We must be ready — not just to host the nation, but to ensure that Homa Bay’s transformation is lasting and impactful,” he added.

The 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations are expected to attract thousands of visitors from across Kenya, presenting Homa Bay with a historic opportunity to showcase its culture, unity, and hospitality on the national stage.
