Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) interim party leader Anyang’ Nyong’o has dismissed claims that the party is merely advancing the interests of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Nyong’o asserted ODM’s independence and influence in Kenya’s political landscape, stating, “Let there be no misunderstanding: ODM does not play second fiddle or trumpet the interests of any other political party. We remain a formidable force in shaping Kenya’s political landscape, firmly rooted in our principles and ideology.”

The remarks came after Minority Leader in the National Assembly Junet Mohamed suggested earlier in the week that the government should eliminate public participation in development projects, citing it as a source of unnecessary delays. Nyong’o appeared to counter these sentiments, reiterating ODM’s commitment to democratic principles.

“I wish to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the democratic principles that define our party. ODM was founded as an independent, revolutionary, and people-centered movement, and we remain steadfast in these ideals,” he said.

Nyong’o emphasized that while ODM recognizes the importance of strategic alliances, such collaborations are not signs of subservience. “As a political entity, we understand the value of strategic partnerships. From time to time, we may choose to form alliances and coalitions with other parties or groups that align with our objectives and vision for Kenya. These partnerships are deliberate efforts to strengthen our resolve in achieving our primary goal of transforming the lives of Kenyans,” he stated.

The ODM leader reaffirmed the party’s role as a beacon of hope and progress in Kenya’s politics, committed to upholding democracy, accountability, and transparency.

“Our mission remains clear: to serve the aspirations of the people, and we will continue to be a steadfast force for integrity and progress in our nation’s political arena,” Nyong’o concluded.
