Popular gospel singer Emelda Awuor Mowar, popularly known as Nyakenya1, has spoken out after a video purportedly showing her being assaulted and her belongings thrown out of a house by her husband went viral on social media.
The incident has sparked heated debate online, with social media personality Margaret Anyango, popularly known as African Queen, making a series of allegations about the singer’s marriage and private life.
In a video shared online, Anyango claimed that Awuor had been involved in a relationship with a police officer while married to a man identified as Felix.
Anyango further alleged that Awuor was Felix’s second wife and claimed that her relationship with him contributed to the breakdown of his previous marriage.
“This is not her first relationship. You cannot go and marry a man who has a wife and children and then find yourself being rejected by your husband. People are lying to you. I have done my research and have proof that you have been dating a police officer, and that is why you were beaten,” Anyango said.
She also criticised Awuor for what she described as hypocrisy, questioning her Christian faith and urging her to seek spiritual transformation rather than relying on her career as a gospel musician.
“You claim that you are saved, but instead of taking it easy in someone’s house, you still go out to spend time with another man. Your friends are lying to you. You have destroyed someone’s home. Look for Jesus Christ. You cannot use gospel for your own selfish interests,” she said.
Anyango went on to claim that the viral incident was not the first time Awuor had allegedly been forced out of a relationship, although she did not provide publicly verifiable evidence to support the allegations.
She also disputed Awuor’s apparent suggestion that she had no role in the circulation of the video showing her belongings being thrown outside the house.
According to Anyango, Awuor recorded the incident and shared the footage with friends, allegedly asking them to distribute it widely to attract public sympathy.
“You even took the video and gave it to your friends, instructing them to share it on all platforms to look for sympathy, yet you say you do not know who shared the video,” Anyango claimed.
However, Awuor has rejected the suggestion that she deliberately released the video to attract sympathy.
Speaking on her social media platform, the singer said she was not responsible for putting the footage on social media and accused Felix of having a history of conflicts with women she had previously dated.
Awuor acknowledged that she and Felix had been experiencing problems in their relationship but said she had deliberately avoided taking their private disputes to the public.
She said she had repeatedly pleaded with Felix to stop assaulting her but that he allegedly refused to listen.
“I am not a drama queen. I could not go to social media to tell people about our differences,” Awuor said.
The singer maintained that she is a peaceful person and said she was tired of the ongoing dispute.
The competing accounts have since fuelled intense debate among social media users, with the viral video and subsequent allegations drawing widespread attention.
The claims about Awuor’s alleged relationships, previous marriages and the circumstances surrounding the video have not been independently verified.
