Mystery as woman’s body is found dumped in Kisumu’s Manyatta Estate, police suspect rape and murder

Police in Kisumu have launched investigations to track down unknown suspects following the discovery of the body of a 38-year-old woman at the Skyway area in Manyatta Estate early Saturday morning.

According to a police report, the incident was reported by Manyatta Estate Village Elder Tom Opiyo, who alerted authorities after finding the body of a middle-aged woman lying motionless along a corridor within the estate.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), accompanied by police officers, visited the scene and confirmed the report.

“It was reported by Village Elder Tom Opiyo that there was a body of a female person lying dead at the Skyway area. The scene was visited by station and DCI officers, who found the body of an unidentified middle-aged woman, estimated to be about 38 years old, lying on her back,” part of the police report stated.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman may have been sexually assaulted at a different location before being dumped at the scene while still alive.

Police believe she was abandoned in the corridor and left struggling for her life before eventually succumbing.

Residents who discovered the body at around 7 a.m. were unable to identify the deceased.

Investigators noted that although the body did not bear visible external injuries, the circumstances surrounding the death point to suspected sexual assault and murder.

Crime scene detectives processed the area before the body was transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy and forensic examinations will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death and aid investigations.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify the deceased or lead to the arrest of those responsible to report to the nearest police station.

The case is being handled by detectives from the DCI Kondele.
