Victor Radido, a former parliamentary aspirant for Kisumu Central Constituency and a dedicated figure in Kenya’s scouting movement, has been honored with the prestigious Silver World Award during the Silver Buffalo Award Dinner at Scouting America’s National Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

Radido now enters the history books as one of only three Africans, and the third Kenyan, to receive this globally revered award. He follows in the footsteps of Kenya’s founding president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, who was awarded in 1971, and former President Daniel Moi, honored in 1973.

The Silver World Award is conferred exclusively upon international leaders who have demonstrated outstanding service to youth worldwide, a distinction made by Scouting America, one of the world’s largest scouting organizations.

Radido, alongside fellow Kenyan scout leader Antony Gitonga, was recognized for their unwavering commitment to empowering youth through scouting initiatives that have reached global impact. Speaking after the ceremony, Radido expressed deep humility at joining the ranks of two of Kenya’s most prominent historical leaders.

“This prestigious international recognition, presented by Scouting America, acknowledges individuals who have rendered exceptional service to youth on a global scale. Antony and I are humbled to join the ranks of Kenyan leaders Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and H.E. Daniel arap Moi—the only other recipients of this award from our nation and the African continent,” Radido said.

He emphasized that the honor represents more than personal achievement, it reflects the collective effort of Kenya’s entire scouting community.

“This award is not just a personal honour but a collective effort of all Kenyan Scouts, volunteers, staff, and supporters who have contributed to our mission. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey. Together, we continue to build a better world through Scouting,” he added.

Radido’s recognition reaffirms Kenya’s longstanding legacy and contribution to the global scouting movement, marking a proud moment for the nation on the international stage.
