There was joy at Lisana Mixed Secondary School in Lower Nyakach Division, Nyakach Sub-county, after receiving a generous donation from the non-governmental organization christened Double Declining Balance (DDB).

The donation, which includes high-quality chairs, tables, books, and mathematical sets, aims to improve the school’s learning environment and administration.

Speaking on Wednesday during the event, Principal Benard Orwa expressed gratitude for the much-needed items, noting that they would greatly enhance school operations.

“We have been yearning to have these essential items, especially during our meetings. Now, we are good to go. I thank DDB for what they have done for us. However, I appeal to them to further support the school’s development so we can achieve our dream,” Orwa stated.

Orwa revealed that the school currently has 186 students and recorded a mean grade of 4.4 in last year’s KCSE exams. He expressed optimism that with better resources, the school could achieve a mean grade of at least 5 this year, citing steady academic improvement.

School Struggles Highlighted

DDB’s Nyanza Region Coordinator, Odinga Isaiah Abuor, highlighted the dire situation at the school, revealing that both the principal and his deputy had been forced to share chairs with students due to a shortage of furniture.

“I was touched when I saw this situation and asked DDB to step in. Even teachers lack basic resources, and the school’s accountant does not have a computer. Many students struggle to pay school fees, and I urge other organizations to assist in funding education and improving school infrastructure,” Abuor stated.

DDB’s Commitment to Education

Philip Oloo, a DDB official, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to supporting education and uplifting the community.

“We are happy with the school’s performance despite the many challenges. Today, we have donated learning materials such as books, mathematical sets for KCSE candidates, and sanitary towels for the girl child,” Oloo said.

He further emphasized the importance of digital skills in today’s world, urging students to explore online opportunities instead of waiting for formal employment.

“The world is now digital, and we urge students to embrace technology. After Form Four, they should explore online work like virtual assistance and social media influencing. This is why the government is establishing ICT hubs across the country,” Oloo added.

The donation is expected to enhance the learning experience at Lisana Mixed Secondary School and improve student performance, providing much-needed relief to both students and teachers.
