After months of speculation, the wait is over—INJECT party leader Morara Kebaso has officially declared his bid for Kenya’s presidency in the 2027 election.

“I will run for president of the Republic of Kenya. My tribe is the youth of Kenya,” Kebaso announced via his social media platforms, becoming the first to formally declare a challenge against incumbent President William Ruto.

The announcement sets the stage for a high-stakes contest likely to feature other political heavyweights, including ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Kalonzo is expected to rally support from key political figures like DAP-K leader Peter Munya, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and other influential leaders in his bid to unseat Ruto. Meanwhile, observers speculate that Odinga might make a sixth run for the presidency if he does not secure the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship in February 2025, a position strongly backed by Ruto’s administration.

Matiang’i, currently abroad, has reportedly enlisted Canadian lobbying firm Dickens & Madson to bolster his presidential ambitions. Reports suggest he has already paid a down payment of Sh8.4 million and committed to a retainer of Sh32.3 million for media and public relations services aimed at securing his place in the 2027 race.

The former CS, widely regarded as one of the top performers in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, is positioning himself as a formidable contender in what promises to be a fiercely contested election.

With Kebaso’s declaration, the battle lines for 2027 are beginning to take shape, signaling a political showdown of historic proportions.
