Kisumu is gearing up to host a show-stopping cultural and musical extravaganza, the Mzuqa Fest, set for December 14, 2024, at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mambo Leo.

In a speech read by Kisumu County Secretary Hesbon Hongo during the festival’s launch, Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o highlighted the event’s importance in showcasing Kisumu as a cultural and entertainment powerhouse.

“Hosting an artist of Koffi Olomide’s caliber underscores Kisumu’s emergence as a beacon of cultural diversity and artistic excellence,” the governor’s statement read.

Nyong’o emphasized that the festival aligns with his administration’s vision to position Kisumu as a vibrant hub for culture and entertainment.

“Mzuqa Fest is more than an event—it’s a celebration of music’s transformative power and our collective ambition to elevate Kisumu as a global destination for culture and tourism,” he noted.

The highlight of the festival will be the legendary Congolese musician Koffi Olomide, whose decades-spanning influence has resonated across Africa and beyond. Joining him are Kenya’s own celebrated stars, including Ohangla maestro Prince Indah, Madanje Perimeter, and Apesi Mnyama Mkali, among others.

Nyong’o expressed pride in hosting such a distinguished lineup.

“We are thrilled to welcome global and local icons whose artistry enriches our diverse musical heritage,” he said.

Mzuqa Fest goes beyond entertainment, symbolizing Kisumu County’s ambition to uplift its profile on the international stage. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Kisumu a go-to destination for music, culture, and tourism under the banner “Kisumu My Pride.”
