Kisumu Central Director of Education, Charles Ang’iela, confirmed a smooth kickoff for KCSE exams across the sub-county’s 19 schools.
Addressing The Kenyan Tabloid, he stated that the exams began without incident, with 3,587 students sitting for the first English paper on schedule.
“We have 1,855 boys and 1,692 girls, totaling 3,587 candidates. The exams started off well, and students seemed comfortable with the first paper,” Ang’iela remarked.

He acknowledged two hardship cases being supported within the sub-county.
“We had a student from one of our secondary schools admitted at Nightingale Hospital, and a girl from Nyakach under care at JOOTRH. Both are managing well, thanks to special arrangements by the Kenya National Examinations Council,” he explained, adding that exam papers for these students are handled in secure, sealed containers by an official to ensure compliance.
Ang’iela also highlighted the county’s enhanced security measures: “Our DCC provided an additional vehicle for emergencies, and we had more than enough police officers overseeing the process.” The region’s efforts to prevent exam cheating appear successful, with Ang’iela noting, “There’s been no sign of malpractice across any of our exam centers.”
He urged parents to counsel their children during the exam period, especially as school break can expose students to riskier behaviors like unauthorized motorbike riding.
We need to step up as a community. Let’s engage our children positively and responsibly,” he emphasized.
The exams continue with heightened vigilance and community cooperation to ensure a smooth and secure period for all candidates.
