It was a day of celebration and gratitude in Alendu, Nyando Sub-County, as Pamela Aoko, a widow, became the latest beneficiary of a modern house under the Nyanza Widows Empowerment program, spearheaded by Principal Secretary for Interior Dr. Raymond Omollo.

The initiative, which focuses on uplifting widows and vulnerable families through housing and education support, has transformed lives across the Luo Nyanza region.
A beaming Aoko expressed her gratitude during the handover ceremony.
“This is the best gift I have ever received. I’ve lived in a dilapidated house for years, but now my dream of having a good home has come true,” she said, adding that this new home marks a significant milestone in her life.

Local program coordinator Peterlis Ogendo highlighted the urgency of addressing Aoko’s plight.
“She has been in dire need of a decent home, and today, her wish has been granted. This is what drives our work—to restore dignity and hope to widows,” Ogendo said.

The program’s impact extends beyond housing. Widows whose children have benefited from education support also shared their joy. Lydia Anyango, whose son attends Kisumu Boys’ High School, recalled her relief when the program stepped in.
“My son’s education was at risk, but they understood my struggle and paid his fees. Now, he can stay in school and focus on his studies,” she said.

With its transformative footprint across the four counties of Luo Nyanza, the Nyanza Widows Empowerment program continues to bring hope and stability to families in need, delivering not just homes, but brighter futures.
