A high-level delegation of government officials, lawmakers, and economic stakeholders conducted an extensive assessment tour in Kisumu on Saturday in preparation for the Nyanza International Investment Conference, set to take place at Ciala Resort from February 6th to 8th, 2025.

Deputy Chief of Staff in the Executive Office of the President, Eliud Owalo, emphasized the conference’s strategic importance, describing it as a game-changer in attracting private-sector investments to the region.

“We are here as leaders representing various stakeholder segments, including County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo, MPs Aduma Owuor (Nyakach) and Joshua Oron (Kisumu Central), CEO of the Lake Region Economic Bloc Victor Nyagaya, Chairman of the Lake Basin Development Authority Diang’a Waore, and a representative of Kisumu Women Rep. This is essentially an assessment tour,” Owalo stated.

Global Investment Interest

Owalo revealed that the organizing committee, led by the Nyanza Professional Forum in collaboration with the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), has already engaged with 28 European Union ambassadors, who have mobilized investors from their respective countries. Additionally, business delegations from India, Turkey, and South Korea are expected to attend.

“We have reached out to key professional bodies, including the Law Society of Kenya, the Institute of Engineers, and the Kenya Medical Association, ensuring inclusivity in this initiative. President William Ruto has confirmed he will be the chief guest, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will also be present. We are bringing together all levels of leadership, including members of Parliament, county assemblies, and the Senate,” Owalo affirmed.

Economic Impact on the Region

Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron hailed the conference as a transformative moment for local businesses and the economy.

“This is the first time in history that we are hosting such an international conference. It will be a game-changer, boosting businesses across the region. I take this opportunity to welcome all participants, both national and international, as well as President William Ruto, who will officially open the event,” Oron said.

Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor echoed these sentiments, highlighting Kisumu’s long-standing status as a hub for professionals and academia.

“Kisumu has never hosted an event of this magnitude. I thank the President for prioritizing this conference, as well as prospective African Union Chairman and ODM leader Raila Odinga, whose presence underscores its importance,” Owuor remarked.

With preparations in full swing, stakeholders remain optimistic that the Nyanza International Investment Conference will serve as a catalyst for economic transformation, unlocking new opportunities for regional growth and development.
