Kenya Power Announces Electricity Outages Across Five Counties on Friday

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced system maintenance across several areas in five counties, with outages scheduled to begin at 9am on Friday, May 22.

The Outages

The outages will last for eight hours as engineers work to stabilise the network, enhance upgrades, replace faulty lines, and make new connections. Customers in Nairobi, Trans Nzoia, and Embu counties have been advised to plan in advance to avoid inconvenience.

The affected areas include:

Nairobi: Aturukan Hotel, Mt. Elgon Dairies Sinendet Centre, Kibomet Primary School, Bishop Yego, Sirwo Resort, Mwaita Primary School, Tuigoin Centre, Kiptenden, Kuriot, Parkera, Murgoiyo, and adjacent customers.

Trans Nzoia: Ngecheck, Kampnyamisa, Lelboinet, Ngeria Girls, Koros Secondary School, Tegut, Kapngetuny, Ndupenet, Belkenya, and the surrounding customers.

Embu: Matumbatu Road, Matumbato Flats, Canaan Apartments, KWFT, Regent Valuers, and adjacent customers. Additionally, Gatumbiro Market and TBC, Gatumbiro Boosters, Huhoini Market and schools, Kiahiti, TEAWASCO, Gaithuri, Gatawa TBC, Wagatu TBC, Kirurumi Dispensary, Gathathini School, and the neighbouring clients.

Embu further: Nthokis, Kimangaru, Karurina, Ithangawe, Mugoya Police, Njakairi, Muthatari, Tenri Hospital, NCPB, Prisons, Jumbo Nut, Privam Nuts, Vieznina, Iveche, Kamiu, Embu NTSA, and adjacent customers.

What This Means

Customers in the listed counties are advised to prepare alternative power sources for critical activities and plan their day accordingly. KPLC has urged residents to charge devices and conserve electricity before the outage begins.

In other news, a Kenya Power employee attached to the Mbale-Vihiga office, Kennedy Wambani Oduor, was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over bribery claims.
