Former Kenya Television Network (KTN) journalist Kevin Ogutu has secured a high-profile position in the Kisumu County leadership after being appointed Press Secretary and Head of Strategic Communications in the office of Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga.

In an official appointment letter dated March 5, 2026, Ruth confirmed that Ogutu will immediately assume the role, marking a significant transition from the newsroom to strategic public communication.

“The Office of the Kisumu County Woman Representative, Hon. Ruth Odinga, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Ogutu as Press Secretary and Head of Strategic Communications, effective immediately,” the letter states in part.

Ruth described Ogutu as a decorated multimedia journalist and communication strategist whose career spans major media and editorial platforms across the region.

She noted that his experience includes reporting at KTN, editorial leadership at The City Review in South Sudan, and his recent tenure on the PRSK Editorial Committee.

“With a career spanning KTN, editorial leadership at The City Review (South Sudan), and a recent tenure on the PRSK Editorial Committee, Mr. Ogutu brings an unparalleled dual-lens perspective to the office,” Odinga said.

According to the Woman Representative, Ogutu’s newsroom background and strategic communication expertise will strengthen public engagement and enhance how the office communicates its agenda to citizens.

She added that the appointment reflects the office’s commitment to clear, impactful, and transparent engagement with the people of Kisumu and the wider Kenyan public.

In his new role, Ogutu will spearhead the rollout of a modernised media engagement framework, focusing on proactive media access, digital-first storytelling, and strategic communication of policy and development initiatives.

The former journalist will also be responsible for shaping the office’s public messaging and strengthening relations with media houses and stakeholders.

Speaking after the appointment, Ogutu expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying he had long aspired to serve the people of Kisumu.

He pledged to work closely with members of the Fourth Estate to ensure that development projects and opportunities championed by the Woman Representative’s office are effectively communicated to the public.

“I welcome the opportunity to serve the people of Kisumu in this capacity. I look forward to working with the media to ensure every initiative undertaken by the office reaches the public and benefits the great people of Kisumu,” Ogutu said.
