More than 200 interdenominational churches from the Nyanza region have declared their support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, pledging to mobilise at least 300,000 votes in his favour.

The clergy, operating under the umbrella of the Nyanza Prophetic Clergy (NPC), said President Ruto’s development record in the region had convinced them to rally behind his second-term bid.
Speaking during a meeting, NPC Programme Coordinator Dr. Evans Ongati, accompanied by the organisation’s chairman, Bishop Tom Obingo, said the clergy had already established mobilisation networks across Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Nyamira counties to spearhead the campaign.
“Our target is to deliver at least 300,000 votes for President William Ruto from our churches across the Nyanza region. Our members are already on the ground coordinating this effort,” said Dr. Ongati.
He argued that the President had demonstrated goodwill towards the people of Nyanza through key development projects initiated under the Broad-Based Government.
Dr. Ongati cited the ongoing Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension, road infrastructure projects and other government initiatives as evidence that the Kenya Kwanza administration had prioritised development in the region.
“The signs are clear that the President means well for the people of Nyanza. We are appealing to all like-minded leaders and residents to support his re-election so that he can complete the projects he has already initiated,” he said.
The clergy further noted that the Church and the government play complementary roles in promoting education, peacebuilding and civic education, saying the caucus was ready to continue working closely with the State through Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo.
Dr. Ongati said several members of the organisation also serve as counsellors and peace ambassadors within their communities.

He added that the caucus had been implementing empowerment programmes targeting vulnerable groups, including widows and orphans, with support from Dr. Omollo.
According to Dr. Ongati, the Principal Secretary has supported the refurbishment of several dilapidated churches and assisted in fundraising initiatives aimed at strengthening religious institutions across the region.
He said the latest project was undertaken in Gangu, Rarieda, where a church was rehabilitated through Dr. Omollo’s support.
To expand its outreach, the clergy announced the formation of an internal initiative dubbed “Team Dr. Raymond Omollo,” which will focus on supporting vulnerable families, improving church infrastructure and promoting education within the region.
Bishop Obingo said many churches in Nyanza continue to operate in poor conditions, with some lacking permanent places of worship.
He said the caucus had organised a series of fundraising drives to support churches, assist needy members and sponsor children’s education.
The bishop also called on Kenyans to pray for President Ruto, saying divine wisdom was essential for effective leadership.
“We should continue praying for the President so that God grants him the wisdom to lead the country and deliver on his development agenda,” Bishop Obingo said.
