The Kenyan football fraternity is mourning the death of celebrated radio football commentator Diblo Kaberia, popularly known as Elmago, whose passing was announced by his family on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following a short illness.
Among those who paid tribute was Hussein Mohammed, who described the late sports journalist as a passionate and dedicated broadcaster whose contribution to sports journalism will be greatly missed.
“It is with deep sorrow that I learn of the passing of Diblo Kaberia, a respected sports journalist who was very passionate about his craft. His contributions to sports journalism will be remembered and missed. Sincere condolences to his family and the entire media fraternity. May his soul rest in peace,” said Mohammed in a message posted on Facebook.
Diblo was widely known for his energetic football commentary, humorous delivery, and unmatched ability to bring matches to life on air. Since news of his death broke, colleagues, listeners, and football fans have flooded social media with emotional tributes celebrating his impact on sports broadcasting in Kenya.
Many remembered him as one of the voices that helped shape football commentary on Swahili radio, with fans praising his deep love for the game and his unique talent for connecting audiences to unforgettable football moments.

Diblo joined Radio Jambo, owned by Radio Africa Group, in 2008 during the station’s launch and quickly rose to become one of the most recognizable football commentators in the country.
