Kisumu County is set to host the Africa Smart Cities and Townships Alliance (ASCA) Summit from September 11 to 13, marking yet another major international gathering in the lakeside city.

Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, flanked by the ASCA Secretariat and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), on Thursday met the media to highlight the summit’s socio-economic value. He said Kisumu has firmly established itself as one of Africa’s fastest-rising hubs for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE).

“Kisumu is fast rising and cementing its position as a continental hub for MICE events,” Nyong’o said, adding that President William Ruto has been invited to grace the occasion.

The governor challenged county ministers to seize the opportunity by developing proposals that will leverage the summit to transform Kisumu’s economic and social landscape.

The ASCA Summit will focus on strategically positioning urban areas to better manage rural–urban migration while exploring ways to transform African cities into vibrant economic hubs.

Nyong’o cited Kisumu’s successful hosting of the Africities Summit in 2022 and the AfSNET Conference in 2024 as milestones that continue to place the county at the center of Africa’s urban transformation.
