In a long-awaited move, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has officially signed a groundbreaking agreement with President William Samoei Ruto, signaling a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape. Speaking to thousands of Kenyans gathered at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Odinga expressed his commitment to working alongside Ruto’s government for the good of the nation.

After extensive consultations with Kenyans from all corners of the country, Odinga revealed that the people have given him the green light to collaborate with Ruto, aiming to address key issues affecting Kenya. The ODM leader, who embarked on a nationwide consultation tour following his loss of the African Union (AU) Chairmanship, emphasized that this agreement is a step toward fostering peace, unity, and tackling the country’s greatest challenges, including ignorance, poverty, and bad governance.

“We are here today to sign an agreement that will not only bring peace and unity but also confront the enemies that plague our nation: ignorance, poverty, and bad governance,” Odinga declared. “Together, we will focus on creating jobs for the youth, reducing the cost of living, lowering commodity prices, and addressing health and housing challenges.”

President Ruto, in his address, echoed Odinga’s sentiments, calling the agreement a turning point for Kenya. He stressed that the pact marks the end of tribalism, hatred, and corruption. Ruto referred to Odinga as his “elder brother” and praised him for his leadership in uniting Kenyans from all walks of life.

“This is the beginning of a new era where we unite all Kenyans, end tribalism, and work together for a common future,” Ruto said. “The agreement we’ve signed today is not about me or Raila Odinga—it’s about the people: the youth, women, and all Kenyans. It is time to move beyond corruption, poverty, and political division.”

The signing ceremony saw leaders from both the ODM and UDA parties unite in a show of solidarity. The 10-point agenda outlined in the agreement is set to drive Kenya toward progress by focusing on key priorities such as economic growth, inclusive governance, anti-corruption measures, and the improvement of the country’s infrastructure.

Key Points of the Ruto-Odinga Pact:

  1. Full implementation of the NADCO report
  2. Inclusivity in governance
  3. Protect and strengthen devolution
  4. Uphold integrity in leadership
  5. Safeguard the right to peaceful assembly
  6. Audit and reduce national debts
  7. Fight corruption
  8. Raise and manage resources responsibly
  9. Protect the sovereignty of the people
  10. Uphold the rule of law and constitutionalism

As Kenya moves forward under this new partnership, the expectations are high, with many hoping that this agreement will mark the beginning of real change for the nation.
