Salim Mvurya has been appointed Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, following a cabinet reshuffle announced by President William Ruto on Thursday, December 19,2024.

Mvurya, formerly the Governor of Kwale County and most recently serving in the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, replaces Ezekiel Machogu. Machogu has been reassigned to the Interior Ministry, previously led by Kithure Kindiki, now the Deputy President.
The appointment positions Mvurya as the third Sports CS in five months, inheriting a ministry at a critical juncture. Among his immediate priorities is accelerating preparations for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025. With CAF President Patrice Motsepe currently in Kenya inspecting facilities, the December deadline for stadium readiness looms large.

Mvurya’s leadership will be pivotal in transforming Kenya’s sports infrastructure to meet international standards, ensuring the country is ready to co-host CHAN 2025 alongside Uganda and Tanzania. This moment marks a decisive chapter for Kenya’s sporting ambitions on the global stage.
