Preparations for the seventh edition of the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) Games have been completed, with more than 10,000 guests expected in Kisumu ahead of the official opening on Sunday, October 25.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, CASA Games chairman Peter Emwatok said the host county was ready to welcome participants and visitors after inspecting the venues earmarked for the week-long sporting extravaganza.
Emwatok praised the Kisumu County Government for its preparations, describing the lakeside city as a home of sports and commending the county for ensuring that facilities were ready for the competition.
“Preparations are in top gear. We have visited all the fields we are going to use, and they are okay, which means we are ready to go,” said Emwatok.
The week-long games, which run until October 31, will feature a wide range of sporting and cultural activities, including football, netball, volleyball, handball, golf, badminton, chess, para-sports for persons with disabilities and cultural dances.
An eating competition and entertainment activities will also feature in the programme, promising participants and visitors a diverse sporting and cultural experience.
Meanwhile, Kisumu County Commissioner Ramadhan Mwabudzo assured visitors of enhanced security throughout the event.
Mwabudzo said security agencies had put measures in place to ensure the games begin and conclude successfully, adding that officers would conduct patrols at competition venues and across the city to safeguard participants, officials and visitors.
More than 10,000 guests are expected to converge on Kisumu for the event, which brings together county assemblies through sport, cultural exchange and entertainment.
