The former Tharaka Nithi Senator took the oath of office in a vibrant ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfrida Boyani Mokaya administered the oath, with Chief Justice Martha Koome, President William Ruto, and First Lady Rachel Ruto among the notable dignitaries in attendance.

I, Kithure Kindiki, in full realization of the high calling I assume as Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Kenya,” Kindiki declared, pledging to uphold and defend the Constitution and fulfill his duties with diligence.

Addressing the nation following his swearing-in, Kindiki expressed profound gratitude and assured Kenyans and President Ruto of his commitment. “Words fail me to explain how grateful I am today,” he stated. “I will not let you down.”

Kindiki, who previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, was nominated by President Ruto last month. His swearing-in followed a High Court ruling that lifted prior orders preventing the ceremony. High Court judges Eric Ogolla, Fridah Mugambi, and Anthony Mrima determined that “the current constitutional framework does not envision any scenario in which the office of the DP would remain vacant except during the brief period required to fill a vacancy.”

This historic swearing-in marks a new chapter in Kenya’s leadership, as Kindiki steps into the Deputy President role under the 2024 constitution.
